I am an avid reader of Linda Howard. Her books have such alpha, yummy heroes and likable soft heroines in need of a knight in shining armor. Kill and Tell was a good romantic suspense story. It was a nice relaxing read for a rainy Sunday. I enjoyed reading about Marc, the hot detective in New Orleans. He was a protective strong moral man who once he decided he wanted the heroine went after her wholeheartedly. I liked Karen, the heroine. She was a strong, self sufficient heroine and seemed to keep a cool head in the face of danger. Their love story moves fast in that they fall for each other in a matter of days. That's ok with me. I don't mind fast relationships without a lot of misunderstandings. I liked the mystery of the story and kept guessing who the murderer was. I want to know more about John Medina, a supporting character who works for the CIA. His story should prove interesting! I did like all the history and description about New Orleans. It's all the more poignant since hurricane Katrina has been through New Orleans and this story was written before the hurricane hit. All in all, it was a good romantic suspense with likable hero and heroine, but pretty average. My fav Linda Howard books are Mr. Perfect, Dream Man, Open Season, and the Mackenzie series. This one was good but was missing that special Omgosh that was a great book that some of her other books have. Still a mediocre Linda Howard book is much better than the average romantic suspense.

Kill and Tell A Novel Linda Howard 9780743475488 Books Reviews

I would enjoy another book with these characters.
I liked Marc Chastain and Karen.

I could see a series branching from this.
I have read most of Linda Howard's books more than once. I like how she sets up the suspense in the plot and how the relationships develop. Karen and Marc are great characters who I became invested in right away. Ms. Howard writes from both sides so that you can get the whole story. Her description of New Orleans is so good that I remember some of the scenes from my recent trip.
version. As I've posted recently, I am a huge Nora Roberts fans but since I've read just about everything she has written, and she only comes out with true "new" books a couple of times a year, I had to begin looking for other authors. Linda Howard is extremely good. I like that the first 3 chapters (I think it was) had no dialogue. It isn't easy to write (or read) text without dialogue; it requires real skill and this story is told with real skill. It has a different rhythm and doesn't labor points or discussions or descriptions. I've also been reading some of JD Robb recently and the "cop" talk can get old after the first couple of books. So it was refreshing to find an author who knows what's important to say and when to stop. I also liked that I had to concentrate to keep up because the story switches back and forth between groups of characters, which probably doesn't sound as interesting as it should, but it gives the impression of a swiftly moving story. As with every version, there are typographical errors. Very distracting. Very. It's like purchasing an expensive blouse, getting it home only to find out it has a pull you didn't notice. You feel cheated paying full price for damaged goods.
Dexter was a Vietnam Vet who abandoned his wife and daughter after the war. He was murdered. His daughter Karen went to New Orleans to identify and bury him. She met detective Marc and a romance began. The killer started going after Karen. John Medina has a small part at the end of this book. He is the main character in the next book "All The Queen's Men."

I loved the scene where Karen fights the killer in her apartment. She was smart and followed advice from her father the sniper.

I read the paperback a few years ago and recently listened to the audiobook. A few times during the audiobook I felt it a little slow in the middle, maybe too much time pondering their feelings and relationship. I wanted to get back to the main plot. But I didn’t notice slowness when I read the paperback. Still, I want to keep it at 5 stars.

AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR
Natalie Ross did an excellent job. (And I was pleased that her breath noises were edited out.)

DATA
Narrative mode 3rd person. Story length 305 pages. Swearing language strong including religious swear words but rarely used. Sexual language moderate to strong. Number of sex scenes about 5. Setting current day mostly Columbus, Ohio and New Orleans, Louisiana. Copyright 1998. Genre contemporary romantic suspense.
Let me say, right off , that for me Linda Howard is the Queen of Romantic Suspense. This is one of my favorite L.H. books. This was a reread for me and I loved it just as much the second time around. Howard can weave a romance in between bullets flying and good guys hiding from bad guys. The romance is very sexy. Our hero Marc Chastain is super Alpha and so hot he makes the pages sizzle. Our heroine Karen Whitlaw is no wilting little flower. She is a kick-A%$ woman who knows how to protect herself when the going gets rough. These characters morph from two dimensional, on the page characters, to three dimensional people you know who are in the room with you as you read. Yes, a bit scary, but that’s the artistry of Howard’s writing. And That sexy scene on the balcony in the rain, be still my heart. Do I recommend this book? You betcha.
I have had this book in paperback for years, and finally caved and bought it for my . I still love it. This was a great series that thankfully you don't have to read in order. It's hard for me to say whether there were twists or not since I remembered it so well, but I am pretty darn sure I was shocked by a detail that came out at the end. Plus I just love Marc and Karen, they are normal people thrown together in extraordinary circumstances and their story is just wonderful.
Linda Howard writes a truly exceptional book. The characters are sexy and this is one of the most sexy hero's I have ever read. This is a book you will read and want to read again which I have done several times. The characters are memorable and smart as well as sexy. You can fell the heat of New Orleans and see the moss in the trees as you take a break from the real world to enjoy a walk on the wild side.
