After successfully skewering ego-driven Hollywood (Tricks of the Trade) and salacious reality TV shows (Hunk House), Tyler sets his sights on the backstabbing world of traveling ice-skating exhibitions and delivers an entertaining all-gay version of All About Eve. Hunky former Olympic hopefuls Garry Windsor and Jay Logan have landed in the cheesiest of traveling ice shows, Gold on Ice (also known as "the drain" because it sucks talent into oblivion), after Garry was fired from the American Skating Society (A.S.S.) for being gay, and Jay ended his competitive career years ago with a poor showing at the Nationals. The two form a friendship with Gold on Ice's star attraction, levelheaded bronze medal winner Amber Nyak (the Mary Richards of the skating world) and slowly begin to increase the quality of the skating and production. The improved ice show starts attracting larger crowds, media attention and a youthful, innocent skater wannabe, Tag Tempkin. Before you can say "Eve Harrington," Tag's hero worship routine has snagged him a part in the show, and then the kid gloves come off. So do the shirts and pants as Tag leaves no fly unzipped on his quest to headline the show and sideline his competition. Fans of Tyler's shamelessly seductive blend of fast-paced action, ruthless characters and hard sex will gobble up this high-caloric bonbon.

Competitive figure skater gay Garry Windsor has fallen on hard times. He bombed at the OLympics, his lover left him and he's performing in a tacky touring ice-skating show called "Gold on Ice". The only good thing is his equally gay best friend Jay Logan is in the show with him. On their travels they encounter gorgeous, young and innocent Tag Tempkin who also wants to ice skate like them. But it turns out that Tag is NOT as innocent as them and will do anything to get ahead.Yeah--it's a gay "All About Eve" on ice. The characters are interesting, the story moves quickly, the one-liners fly fast and furious and the sex is VERY hot. But there's two big problems with this. Tag is TOO vicious. When he gets mean he gets REAL mean and the fun sort of drains out of this. Also I thought the story was over halfway through but it tacks on one climax too many. Still, all the way through, it's entertaining and fun reading. A little too long but fun. Worth getting.

Gay Blades edition by Ben Tyler Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I loved it. If you like mindless relaxing reading full of adventure and lots of hot sex, this is the one for you.
I had been looking forward to getting to this title, however, after reading it I was quite disappointed. It's just an "All About Eve" rip-off. Our lead character, Tag, will do just about anything or anybody to make it to the top...you can figure out the rest.
I had a great time reading GAY BLADES. I would treat myself to one chapter a night because I wanted to let the story unfold slowly so it wouldn't end. We all love stories about the dirty dealings people use to grab at fame- Gay Blades let's the reader root for the winners and hope for the evil "chorus boy" to get his just desserts. The sex scenes ain't bad either- hot and steamy in counter point to the ice cold skating rink- makes my nipples hard just thinking about it. Gay Blades is pure fun told with wit and style. Bravo, Ben Tyler. Your books never let me down. Three words READ THIS BOOK!
I loved this book. God, I hope someone makes a movie of Gay Blades. Ben Tyler created such wonderful, lovable characters and some wicked evil backstabbing villians who you love to hate. This book was the perfect summer read- but would be a fun read in any season. I loved watching the main character deal with his competition while trying to mend a broken heart. With the attention that shows like American Idol and Star Search are getting these days, Gay Blades would make a perfect television series- we'd get to see the adventures of male figure skaters fighting for stardom in great costumes. Ben Tyler I love you and your wicked writing style. Gay Blades gets a perfect score.
Everybody is a critic. Although I don't ordinarily write reviews of books or movies, I was reading a couple on for this book and decided to offer my opinion. This was a fun book to read. I'm not saying it's up there with "Gond with the Wind," but the writer wrote a cool book, I think. It's a book you can read on a long airplane trip, or over a rainy weekend. I ordered it with that in mind and got what I expected and wanted. One reader called it an "All About Eve" retread. I guess in a way it is. But that classic storyline works well with a traveling ice skating show as a backdrop. I know from personal experience. I also know real-life characters like the ones in this book, which is maybe why I liked it too. And maybe the reviewer who said it was worthless is a famous skater and was mad because the writer was writing about him. If so, I think I know who that reader/skater is because I've been around ice shows all mylife. Granted, some of the sex scenes in the book are a little lame. But one in particular is very sexy. But overall, I would recommend this book to readers who want to know about gay skaters in shows like "Stars on Ice" and "Champions on Ice." I give it thumbs up.
Sometimes you read to expand your thinking and if that is what you are wanting then do not get this book. However, most of us love to read to take us out of the current world we live in for a period of time and just be entertained. ENTERTAINMENT is what this book is made up of. Ben Tyler is by no means the best author out there but does sweep you up in a story that you forget how long you have been reading. The images come to life in your head. Someone said they could not wait for the movie. I totally agree the images and events are so descriptive and come off the page.
The story is written around the ice skating world. There is humor, steamy sex scenes and backstabbing bitchness around every corner and I could not stop from turning the pages. I would totally recommend this book for a good entertainment read.
Sometimes campy, sometimes hilarious gay male skewering of the tackiness that abounds when talented skaters miss eligible greatness but still want to earn money skating. There are lots of fantasies in this novel. There are, of course, sex scenes of many varieties. There's a running fantasy about monogamy and true love, as well. It's a slightly different universe, populated by gay men everywhere the doormen, the cab drivers, the police officers, guys making out passionately in public. When you stumble into the hotel room of a stranger, it's someone gay and hot. Some readers will recognize in the author a kindred soul who has clearly choreographed his own fantasy programs more than once. The figure skating establishment may not have much to say about gay male culture -- at least, not officially -- but as Gay Blades proves, that doesn't stop gay male culture from having something to say about figure skating."-- RAINBOW ICE Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered issues in the sport of figure skating ([...]
